Rape a long battle for justice

Rape a battle for justice: Why are rape cases mishandled -Pyre of dead…???

Mahatma Gandhi’s definition of India:

Today is 151st Gandhi Jayanti: What he would have felt if he was alive?

The crime in Hathras is a stark reminder of how little has changed since 2012 . How the Nirbhaya case spurred the nationwide outrage, candlelit processions, the anti-rape slogans and the angry citizens on the streets protesting; everything is just for memory nothing changed rather it has become more psychotic.Burning her pyre nothing more gruesome by the law makers.”Kiski Chita Jali”?

Burnt hope,burnt constitution!

Nirbhaya – The Fearless:

It’s ironical that the one fantastic word(Nirbhaya – for being outside home at a “late” hour, doesn’t allow her to be scared? Or was it a pun intentional because she was supposed to die or why did she survive?-“A well-packaged brand, symbolizing a campaign to improve the safety of women in the country, is related to a terrible rape case.”  I can never forget the spine chilling revelation made by one of the rapists of Jyoti Singh(alias Nirbhaya) the bus driver (Mukesh Singh) who remained defiant and unrepentant throughout the  interview for a BBC documentary. In a nutshell, this is what he said: A girl is far more responsible for rape than a boy. When being raped, she shouldn’t fight back. She should just be silent and allow the rape. Then they would have dropped her off after ‘doing her’ and only hit the boy.”

From remarks on the skimpy outfit to rapes on meager four months old children, India has come a long way. Though it’s not a revolutionary thought, there’s no excuse for raping a lady and so beating her brutally to death. “She deserved it,” “she’s a whore in revealing clothes” and “she asked for it” don’t seem to be plausible explanations.

The Delhi gang rape was ghastly however it’s not the sole one… There are
others every case more evil then one before, equally horrendous and there are more since. Everyday, our media wakes us up to innumerable variety of incidents involving women and girls including minors.”

The infamous December 2012 case got its closure on 20th March,2020. Nirbhaya’s mother  said, “Today’s dawn will be new dawn for daughters of India. “I thought though justice delayed it was not denied. How stupid of me to believe- this will instill fear among Indian men for whom violating female humility is some kind of achievement.

People have been measuring every rape with the ‘Nirbhaya’ yardstick, to decide on the level of brutality of the crime .Comparing each one, what standard have we fallen, it’s ghastly”. When a modesty of a woman is not only violated but mercilessly subjected to a torturous death. We are comparing which one of the crimes was more outrageous .Leave alone the young or old , innocent kids are also not spared what kind of a nation are we in?

In the history, we were the culture who worshiped goddesses; in villages/towns in India(grama Deveata). Where is that reverence? Neither fear of god nor fear of judiciary, what kind of parents are delivering such monsters?

nirbhaya 1“Please look at the image of one of the rapists of Nirbhaya closely- from what angle does he look like a criminal from prison?” Despite of being in prison, I wonder how shamelessly he managed a gym body. As if Bollywood actor walking scot-free amid police protection. Not an ounce of shame, no guilt look at the Salman look alike(not to offend any of Salman Khan Fan’s).These underprivileged monsters  who were supposed to earn their living the hard way, are given the luxury of our taxes no wonder there is no fear, in the name of criminal rights and protection.

While the statistics of rape cases in India are horrifying, as if  the statistics of Corona. It is “just a number”.

As the memories of Nirbhaya case waned from the minds of people, the nation mourned many more  rape victims each case more heinous than the former Rohtak, Mandsuar, Unnao, Kathua, Priyanka Reddy is  this is the number I should be even  remembering?

Not to forget Disha Salian  Educated Independent Woman had connections in the high class, must not have imagined her drastic end, even she was not spared.

Neither class nor caste, as long as a woman is treated as a commodity, this will continue. The fundamental thing here is  one wants to possess, humiliate, and subjugate another weaker human being(Not even sparing 4year -6year old girl babies) Situation  has got worse, not better, since then.

The government can make a hundred laws and yet it will fail because there is no enforcement. Major loop hole in the Nirbhaya Act is that, it doesn’t prescribe steps or procedure to be followed by police in order to prevent the occurrence of the crimes against the women.

Preventive measures which include vigilant measures taken by the police to contact victims in a timely manner and prevent them from being falling prey to such wild beasts. There should be a turnaround time to specify the time required for the police to contact the victim.A big laugh on the amendments made(criminal protection is more important) kisko farak padta hai?(Who cares?) I’m not even going to count the number of times I read, rape in the social media on daily basis.

Politicians stall police investigations that’s another drawback. Not forgetting our sluggish court system: India’s court system is painfully slow, in part because of a shortage of judges.

While many companies are working towards getting more women leaders(right to equality is all together a different battle) as it has today become a business imperative, they would do well to remember that they too need to actively change the society around them.A huge respect to all women in current times(these are the toughest times because women came out of safety of homes to mark their identity not very long enough)  in spite of all hurdles who are facing violence across at each step at home, on the streets and workplaces(Women and girls, battling domestic abuse, rape, infanticide and dowry-related violence) yet moving forward head held high.

But it’s worth noting that it will be hard to end discrimination against women when it starts in the crib.Raising awareness is a key part of ending violence against women and girls.

Harassment of varying degrees are day to day stories and do not validate enough action unless a grave situation arises.  Apart from some reports buried deep underneath piles of entertaining & amusing more alternative stories that grab eyeballs, I recall nothing.

In a country that still fails to recognize the existence of something called ‘marital rape’ if these incidents don’t shake you yet, then what will?

Only God can save this country, high time Lord Sri Krishna  where are you?

You promised in the following phrases-

This is the famous verse from Bhagvad Gita,

“Yada yada hi dharmasya glanirbhavati bharata

Abhythanamadharmasya tadatmanam srijamyaham”

Paritranaya sadhunang vinashay cha dushkritam

Dharmasangsthapanart- hay sambhabami yuge yuge

which means:-

“Whenever, O descendant of Bharata, there is decline of Dharma(path of rightness), and rise of Adharma(wickedness), then I body Myself forth. For the protection of the good, for the destruction of the wicked, and for the establishment of Dharma I am coming, I am coming, when there is a loss of religion, then I am coming, when the iniquity increases, then I am coming to protect the gentlemen.”
